$${a}^{\mathrm{2}} −{b}^{\mathrm{2}} ={a}^{\mathrm{2}} +{ab}−{ab}−{b}^{\mathrm{2}} \\ $$$$={a}\left({a}+{b}\right)−{b}\left({a}+{b}\right) \\ $$$$=\left({a}+{b}\right)\left({a}−{b}\right) \\ $$
