If you plot a graph with f(x) on Y−axis  and x on X−axis, then  f ′(x) gives the slope of the tangent drawn  on the curve at point (x,f(x)).  f ′(1)=5 gives the of the tangent at point  (1,f(1))=(1,14).  slope=tan θ, where θ is the angle made by  tangent with X−axis.
