A 5-kg body is suspended from a spring- balance, and an identical body is balanced on a pan of a physical balance. If both the balances are kept in an elevator, then what would happen in each case when the elevator is moving with an upward acceleration?

mg→m(g+a) ⇒ spring balance has new equili- brium point (stretches). Physical balance remains balanced with the same weights.
$${mg}\rightarrow{m}\left({g}+{a}\right) \\ $$$$\Rightarrow\:{spring}\:{balance}\:{has}\:{new}\:{equili}- \\ $$$${brium}\:{point}\:\left({stretches}\right). \\ $$$${Physical}\:{balance}\:{remains}\: \\ $$$${balanced}\:{with}\:{the}\:{same}\:{weights}. \\ $$

In first case, the reading of spring balance increases but in second, there will be no effect on physical balance because on both sides of physical balance, there are equal masses.
