let x be tens y be ones

x + y = 9

(10 x + y) - (10 y + x) = 45

x = 9 - y

10 x + y - 10 y - x = 45

9 x - 9 y = 45

x - y = 5

9 - y - y = 5

- 2 y = - 4

y = 2

x = 7

∴ x = 7, y = 2
