let p=log (x), q=log (y)  p^2 +q^2 =2(p+q)  (p+q)^2 −2pq=2(p+q)  (p+q)^2 −2(p+q)−2pq=0  ⇒p+q=1+(√(1+2pq))≤1+(√(1+(((p+q)^2 )/2)))  ⇒(p+q)^2 −2(p+q)≤(((p+q)^2 )/2)  ⇒(p+q)≤4  [log (xy)]^2 =(p+q)^2 ≤4^2 =16 =maximum
