but it should also be clear without the  diagram, because the diagram didn′t  come with the question, it must be  drawn by yourself.

That is the problem.  I drew wrong diagram but I doubt.  Immediately I saw your diagrams. I  understand.    My textbook wrong too.

My mind tell me it wrong.  That is why I asked.  But when I saw your diagram. I underdtand better and cleared.

also here you can not simply say that the   solution is wrong. it depends on how  you understand “cross the river” and  “direction of motion of boot”.   sometimes the language is just not  precise in mathematical sense. you  should have your own opinion.
