for 200 meals 6 cooks each working   6 hours are needed, i.e. totally  36 working hours are needed for   200 meals.  now 400 meals must be cooked, 72   working hours are needed. since  each cook works 3 hours more than  before, i.e. 9 hours each day, the  company needs totally ((72)/9)=8 cooks,   so it needs to hire 2 (additional)  cooks, i.e.   answer (a) is correct.
