you have two unknowns x, y  but you have only one equation, in  this case you can not determine x  and y! because there are infinite  possibilities.
$${you}\:{have}\:{two}\:{unknowns}\:{x},\:{y} \\ $$$${but}\:{you}\:{have}\:{only}\:{one}\:{equation},\:{in} \\ $$$${this}\:{case}\:{you}\:{can}\:{not}\:{determine}\:{x} \\ $$$${and}\:{y}!\:{because}\:{there}\:{are}\:{infinite} \\ $$$${possibilities}. \\ $$
