Find the locus of point P (the point of intersection of tangents to ellipse (x^2 /a^2 )+(y^2 /b^2 )=1 . The tangents being drawn at points where a chord (distance d from center) cuts the ellipse.

let P ≡(h,k)   Eq. of chord if contact is        ((hx)/a^2 )+((ky)/b^2 ) =1  its  distance from origin is d  ⇒  d = (1/( (√((h^2 /a^4 )+(k^2 /b^4 )))))  Hence locus is         (x^2 /a^4 )+(y^2 /b^4 ) =(1/d^( 2) )  .
