Three consecutive terms of a G.P are the 3rd, 5th and 8th term of an A.P.  Find the common ratio.

A+(3−1)D=a  A+(5−1)D=ar  A+(8−1)D=ar^2   {A+4D}−{A+2D}=ar−a  2D=ar−a  D=((ar−a)/2)  A+2D=a  A+ar−a=a  A=2a−ar  A+7D=ar^2   2a−ar+7(((ar−a)/2))=ar^2   4a−2ar+7ar−7a=2ar^2   4−2r+7r−7−2r^2 =0  −2r^2 +5r−3=0  2r^2 −5r+3=0  2r^2 −2r−3r+3=0  2r(r−1)−3(r−1)=0  (r−1)(2r−3)=0  r=1   or r=(3/2)
