For what values of a does the system  of equations only have one solution:   { ((a(x^4 +1)=y+2−∣x∣)),((x^2 +y^2 =4)) :}

y=a(x^4 +1)+∣x∣−2  let t=∣x∣>0  y=at^4 +t+a−2   ...(i)  y^2 +t^2 =2^2    ...(ii)  (i) and (ii) should touch at one and  only one point. due to symmetry,   this point must be at t=0, i.e. (0,2)  a(0^4 +1)+0−2=2  ⇒a=4 ✓
