If x, y, z are in GP and x+3, y+3, z+3 are in HP, then

Then (y/x)=(z/y) =r and (2/(y+3))=(1/(x+3))+(1/(z+3)) let x+3=u , y+3=v , z+3=w (2/v)=((u+w)/(uw)) and ((v−3)/(u−3))=((w−3)/(v−3)) =r ⇒ v(u+w)=2uw and v^2 −6v+9 = uw+9−3(u+w) ⇒ v^2 −6v=uw−((6uw)/v) ⇒ v^2 (1−(6/v))=uw(1−(6/v)) ⇒ v=6 or u, v, w are in G.P. y+3=6 or x+3 , y+3 , z+3 are in G.P. as well. ⇒ y=3 or (y+3)^2 =(x+3)(z+3) .
