small square: a×a=6×6 big square: b×b area of triangle: A_1 +A_2 −A_3 =(a^2 /2)+(((a+b)b)/2)−(((a+b)b)/2)=(a^2 /2)=(6^2 /2)=18 ✓
$${small}\:{square}:\:{a}×{a}=\mathrm{6}×\mathrm{6} \\ $$$${big}\:{square}:\:{b}×{b} \\ $$$${area}\:{of}\:{triangle}: \\ $$$${A}_{\mathrm{1}} +{A}_{\mathrm{2}} −{A}_{\mathrm{3}} \\ $$$$=\frac{{a}^{\mathrm{2}} }{\mathrm{2}}+\frac{\left({a}+{b}\right){b}}{\mathrm{2}}−\frac{\left({a}+{b}\right){b}}{\mathrm{2}}=\frac{{a}^{\mathrm{2}} }{\mathrm{2}}=\frac{\mathrm{6}^{\mathrm{2}} }{\mathrm{2}}=\mathrm{18}\:\checkmark \\ $$
