Let the centre of the circle be C(h,k) Since, it touches the x−axis at P(−3,0), CP⊥ x−axis and h=−3 since, the centre lies on the line 2x+y+1=0 ⇒2(−3)+k+1=0⇒k=5 (a) coordinate of C=(−3,5) (b) radius= 5units (∵CP⊥x−axis) (c) equation of the circle: (x−h)^2 +(y−k)^2 =r^2 ⇒(x+3)^2 +(y−5)^2 =5^2 ⇒x^2 +6x+9+y^2 −10y+25=25 ⇒x^2 +y^2 +6x−10y+9=0
