	$s a y a b i r d n e e d s p t i m e s e n e r g y t o$ $f l y o v e r w a t e r a s o v e r l a n d .$ $s a y B C = x$ $A C = \sqrt{x^{2} + 5^{2}}$ $C D = 13 - x$ $t o t a l e n e r g y n e e d e d :$ $E = p \sqrt{x^{2} + 5^{2}} + 13 - x$ $\frac{d E}{d x} = \frac{p x}{\sqrt{x^{2} + 5^{2}}} - 1 = 0$ $(p^{2} - 1) x^{2} = 5^{2}$ $\Rightarrow x = \frac{5}{\sqrt{p^{2} - 1}} = 4$ $\Rightarrow p = \sqrt{1 + {(\frac{5}{4})}^{2}} = \frac{\sqrt{41}}{4} = 1.6$
