$$\left(1\right)a+ar+{ar}^2=p;a(1+r+r^2)=p$$$$\left(2\right)a^2+a^2{r}^2+a^2{r}^4=q;a^2(1+r^2+r^4)=q$$$$(\bullet ){(1+r+r^2)}^2=1+r^2+r^4+2r+2r^2+2r^3$$$$\frac{p^2}{a^2}=\frac{q}{a^2}+2r(1+r+r^2)$$$$\frac{p^2}{a^2}=\frac{q}{a^2}+2r\left(\frac{p}{a}\right)$$$$p^2=q+2arp$$$$p^2-q=2arp$$$$ar=\frac{p^2-q}{2p}$$$$$$$$$$
