x(t) = a cos ωt and x(t) = b cos ωt  really don′t hold as the parametric equation of an ellipse

$${x}\left({t}\right)\:=\:{a}\:\mathrm{cos}\:\omega{t}\:\mathrm{and}\:{x}\left({t}\right)\:=\:{b}\:\mathrm{cos}\:\omega{t} \\ $$$$\mathrm{really}\:\mathrm{don}'\mathrm{t}\:\mathrm{hold}\:\mathrm{as}\:\mathrm{the}\:\mathrm{parametric}\:\mathrm{equation}\:\mathrm{of}\:\mathrm{an}\:\mathrm{ellipse} \\ $$
