Solve for  x  ((6x + 2a + 3b + c )/(6x + 2a − 3b − c)) = ((2x + 6a + b + 3c)/(2x + 6a − b − 3c))

(((6x+2a+3b+c)+(6x+2a−3b−c))/((6x+2a+3b+c)−(6x+2a−3b−c)))=  =(((2x+6a+b+3c)+(2x+6a−b−3c))/((2x+6a+b+3c)−(2x+6a−b−3c)))⇒  ((12x+4a)/(6b+2c))=((4x+12a)/(2b+6c))⇒((6x+2a)/(3b+c))=((2x+6a)/(b+3c))  ⇒((6x+2a)/(2x+6a))=((3b+c)/(b+3c))⇒(((6x+2a)+3(2x+6a))/((6x+2a)−3(2x+6a)))=  (((3b+c)+3(b+3c))/((3b+c)−3(b+3c)))⇒((12x+20a)/(−16a))=((6b+10c)/(−8c))  ⇒3x+5a=(a/c)(3b+5c)  3x=((3ab+5ac−5ac)/c)=((3ab)/c)⇒x=((ab)/c) .■

It is known as componendo and  dividendo which states that if  (a/b) = (c/d) , then ((a + b)/(a − b)) = ((c + d)/(c − d))  In next step, ((a + 3b)/(a − 3b)) = ((c + 3d)/(c − 3d)) is used.

$$\mathrm{It}\:\mathrm{is}\:\mathrm{known}\:\mathrm{as}\:\mathrm{componendo}\:\mathrm{and} \\ $$$$\mathrm{dividendo}\:\mathrm{which}\:\mathrm{states}\:\mathrm{that}\:\mathrm{if} \\ $$$$\frac{{a}}{{b}}\:=\:\frac{{c}}{{d}}\:,\:\mathrm{then}\:\frac{{a}\:+\:{b}}{{a}\:−\:{b}}\:=\:\frac{{c}\:+\:{d}}{{c}\:−\:{d}} \\ $$$$\mathrm{In}\:\mathrm{next}\:\mathrm{step},\:\frac{{a}\:+\:\mathrm{3}{b}}{{a}\:−\:\mathrm{3}{b}}\:=\:\frac{{c}\:+\:\mathrm{3}{d}}{{c}\:−\:\mathrm{3}{d}}\:\mathrm{is}\:\mathrm{used}. \\ $$

if (a/b)=(c/d) then   ((a+nb)/(a−nb))=((c+nd)/(c−nd))  nεR,n≠(a/b)    proof:  ((a+nb)/(a−nb))=(((a/b)+n)/((a/b)−n))=(((c/d)+n)/((c/d)−n))=((c+nd)/(c−nd))
