 f(x)=sin^4 x−sin xcos x+cos^4 x  f(x)=1−(1/2)sin 2x−(1/2)sin^2 2x  we define sin 2x=t  f(x)=g(t)=1−(1/2)t−(1/2)t^2   g(t)=(9/8)−(1/2)(t+(1/2))^2   so we have min_(−1≤t≤1)  g(t)=g(1)=0  and max_(−1≤t≤1)  g(t)=g(−(1/2))=(9/8)  Hence 0≤f(x)≤(9/8)
