Question Number 15734 by chux last updated on 13/Jun/17

An elastic cord can be stretched to its elastic limit by a load of 2N.If a 35cm lemgth of the cord is extended 0.6cm by a force of 0.5N, what will be the length of the cord when the stretching force is 2.5N? (a)350.8cm (b)352.8cm (c)353.0cm (d)356cm (e)cannot be determined from the data given

what is the length of the cord? 35cm or 350cm? but anyway, the answer is (e).

in the textbook its 35cm

$$\mathrm{in}\:\mathrm{the}\:\mathrm{textbook}\:\mathrm{its}\:\mathrm{35cm} \\ $$

even if the length were 350 cm, the answer is (e). after the elastic limit is reached, the length change of cord is not proportional to the acting force.
