$$x=-\frac{1}{3}$$$$\mathrm{how}?$$$$\mathrm{obviously}x<0\mathrm{because}\mathrm{otherwise}\mathrm{lhs}>0$$$$\mathrm{but}\mathrm{with}x=-1\mathrm{lhs}<0\Rightarrow -1<x<0$$$$\mathrm{then}\mathrm{I}\mathrm{tried}x=-\frac{1}{2}\Rightarrow \mathrm{lhs}<0\Rightarrow -\frac{1}{2}<x<0$$$$\mathrm{then}\mathrm{I}\mathrm{tried}x=-\frac{1}{4}\Rightarrow \mathrm{lhs}>0\Rightarrow -\frac{1}{2}<x<-\frac{1}{4}$$$$\mathrm{then}\mathrm{I}\mathrm{tried}x=-\frac{1}{3}$$
