Show that C={−1,1,−ı,ı} where  ı=(√(−1)) with addition operation is a  group.    Help!

addition is not defined in {−1,1,−i,i}.

For a group G under operation ∗  By its properties,if a,b∈G, then a∗b∈G  For C={−1,+1,−i,i} under +,since 0 is not in  the set, (C,+) cannot be a group.  (C,×),however, is a group.

ForagroupGunderoperationByitsproperties,ifa,bG,thenabGForC={1,+1,i,i}under+,since0isnotintheset,(C,+)cannotbeagroup.(C,×),however,isagroup.
