$$letnumber=x$$$$\frac{120x}{100}-\frac{85x}{100}=14$$$$\frac{35x}{100}=14$$$$\Rightarrow x=\frac{14\times 100}{35}=40$$

$$letnoofbooks=x$$$$\frac{3600}{x}-\frac{3600}{x+6}=50$$$$\Rightarrow \frac{3600(x+6-x)}{x^2+6x}=50$$$$\Rightarrow 72\times 6=x^2+6x$$$$\Rightarrow x^2+6x-72\times 6=0$$$$\Rightarrow x^2+(24-18)x-72\times 6=0$$$$\Rightarrow (x+24)(x-18)=0$$$$x=18$$
