A particle of mass m is fixed to one end  of a light rigid rod of length l and rotated  in a vertical circular path about its  other end. The minimum speed of the  particle at its highest point must be

Why not (√(gl))?

Since it is a solid rod there is no  requirement for tension at the  highest point like in string.

$$\mathrm{Since}\:\mathrm{it}\:\mathrm{is}\:\mathrm{a}\:\mathrm{solid}\:\mathrm{rod}\:\mathrm{there}\:\mathrm{is}\:\mathrm{no} \\ $$$$\mathrm{requirement}\:\mathrm{for}\:\mathrm{tension}\:\mathrm{at}\:\mathrm{the} \\ $$$$\mathrm{highest}\:\mathrm{point}\:\mathrm{like}\:\mathrm{in}\:\mathrm{string}. \\ $$$$ \\ $$
