$$\mathrm{Formula}:$$$$\mathrm{n}(\mathrm{A}\cup \mathrm{B})=\mathrm{n}\left(\mathrm{A}\right)+\mathrm{n}\left(\mathrm{B}\right)-\mathrm{n}(\mathrm{A}\cap \mathrm{B})$$$$\mathrm{The}\mathrm{above}\mathrm{formula}\mathrm{suggest}\mathrm{that}:$$$${}^{\bullet }\mathrm{n}(\mathrm{A}\cup \mathrm{B})\mathrm{is}\mathrm{the}\mathbf{greatest}\mathrm{when}\mathrm{n}(\mathrm{A}\cap \mathrm{B})\mathrm{is}$$$$\mathrm{the}\mathrm{least}\mathrm{i}-\mathrm{e}\mathrm{n}(\mathrm{A}\cap \mathrm{B})=0\mathrm{or}\mathrm{A}\cap \mathrm{B}=\varphi$$$$\mathrm{i}-\mathrm{e}\mathrm{A}\mathrm{\&}\mathrm{B}\mathrm{are}\mathrm{disjoint}\mathrm{sets}.$$$$\mathrm{n}(\mathrm{A}\cup \mathrm{B})=\mathrm{n}\left(\mathrm{A}\right)+\mathrm{n}\left(\mathrm{B}\right)-\mathrm{n}(\mathrm{A}\cap \mathrm{B})$$$$=15+25-0=40$$$${}^{\bullet }\mathrm{n}(\mathrm{A}\cup \mathrm{B})\mathrm{is}\mathrm{the}\mathbf{least}\mathrm{when}\mathrm{n}(\mathrm{A}\cap \mathrm{B})\mathrm{is}$$$$\mathrm{the}\mathbf{greatest}.\mathrm{n}(\mathrm{A}\cap \mathrm{B})\mathrm{is}\mathrm{the}\mathrm{greatest}$$$$\mathrm{when}\mathrm{A}\subset \mathrm{B}.\mathrm{In}\mathrm{this}\mathrm{case}$$$$\mathrm{n}(\mathrm{A}\cap \mathrm{B})=15$$$$\therefore \mathrm{n}(\mathrm{A}\cup \mathrm{B})=15+25-15=25$$$$\left(\mathrm{a}\right)\mathrm{The}\mathrm{greatest}\mathrm{value}\mathrm{of}\mathrm{n}(\mathrm{A}\cap \mathrm{B})=40$$$$\mathrm{The}\mathrm{least}\mathrm{value}\mathrm{of}\mathrm{n}(\mathrm{A}\cap \mathrm{B})=25$$$$-.-.-$$$$\left(\mathrm{b}\right)\mathrm{The}\mathrm{gretest}\mathrm{n}(\mathrm{A}\cap \mathrm{B})=15$$$$\mathrm{The}\mathrm{least}\mathrm{n}(\mathrm{A}\cap \mathrm{B})=0$$
