Question Number 34202 by Rio Mike last updated on 02/May/18

find the gradient of the curve y=(1/x).

$$\:\:{find}\:{the}\:{gradient}\:{of}\:{the}\:{curve} \\ $$$$\:\:\:\:{y}=\frac{\mathrm{1}}{{x}}. \\ $$

Answered by MJS last updated on 02/May/18

the gradient is y′ y=(1/x)=x^(−1) y′=−x^(−2) =−(1/x^2 )

$$\mathrm{the}\:\mathrm{gradient}\:\mathrm{is}\:{y}' \\ $$$${y}=\frac{\mathrm{1}}{{x}}={x}^{−\mathrm{1}} \\ $$$${y}'=−{x}^{−\mathrm{2}} =−\frac{\mathrm{1}}{{x}^{\mathrm{2}} } \\ $$
