$$\mathbf{the}\mathbf{present}\mathbf{age}\mathbf{of}\mathbf{the}\mathbf{son}\mathbf{is}\mathbf{ten}\mathbf{years}$$$$\mathbf{less}\mathbf{than}\mathbf{twice}\mathbf{that}\mathbf{of}\mathbf{his}\mathbf{father}.$$$$\mathbf{if}\mathbf{the}\mathbf{sum}\mathbf{of}\mathbf{their}\mathbf{age}\mathbf{is}80\mathbf{years}.$$$$\mathbf{find}\mathbf{the}\mathbf{age}\mathbf{of}\mathbf{the}\mathbf{father}$$

$${\mathrm{father}}^{\prime }\mathrm{s}\mathrm{age}=x$$$${\mathrm{son}}^{\prime }\mathrm{s}\mathrm{age}=2x-10$$$$x+2x-10=80$$$$3x=90$$$$x=30$$$$2x-10=50$$$$\mathrm{so}\mathrm{the}\mathrm{son}\mathrm{is}20\mathrm{years}\mathrm{older}\mathrm{than}\mathrm{his}\mathrm{father}.$$$$\mathrm{is}\mathrm{this}\mathrm{the}\mathrm{typical}\mathrm{out}-\mathrm{of}-\mathrm{life}-\mathrm{example}?$$$$\mathrm{or}\mathrm{maybe}\mathrm{a}\mathrm{case}\mathrm{of}\mathrm{rebirth}?$$
