$$x^2+px+q=0\Rightarrow x=-\frac{p}{2}\pm \sqrt{\frac{p^2}{4}-q}$$$$\mathrm{in}\mathrm{this}\mathrm{case}:p=4;q=-8$$$$\Rightarrow x=-2\pm 2\sqrt{3}$$
