After 10 years the sum will be 40+20=60 years After 10 years shabena will be = (1/3)×60 = 20 years maria will be =(2/3) ×60 = 40 years ∴ At present Shabena is =20 −10 = 10 years Maria is = 40 −10 = 30 years

Let maira′s age = x Let shaheena′s age = y ∴ x + y = 40 Here, x = 40 − y after 10 years, maira = x + 10 after 10 years, shaheena = y + 10 ∴ x + 10 = 2(y + 10) ∴ x + 10 = 2y + 20 ∴ 40 − y + 10 = 2y + 20 ∴ 50 − y = 2y + 20 ∴ 2y + y = 50 − 20 ∴ 3y = 30 ∴ y = ((30)/3) ∴ y = 10 Then, x = 40 − 10 Then, x = 30 ∴ maira′s age = 30 ∴ shaheena′s age = 10
