$$-18=(-5)\times 4+2$$$$\Rightarrow remainder=2$$

$$\mathrm{some}\mathrm{define}\mathrm{negative}\mathrm{remainders}$$$$-18\mathbf{÷}4=-(18\mathbf{÷}4)=-4\mathrm{remainder}-2$$$$\iff$$$$(-4)\times 4+(-2)=-16-2=-18$$$$\mathrm{but}\mathrm{I}\mathrm{think}{\mathrm{it}}^{\prime }\mathrm{s}\mathrm{more}\mathrm{common}\mathrm{to}\mathrm{keep}\mathrm{remainders}$$$$\mathrm{positive}$$
