kofi have three books on his desk, they are mathematics , biology and physics. Ama also have three books on her desk namely physics ,mathematics and chemistry. A thief picked one book from each of their desk. what is the probability of picking mathematics book

way 1: probability of picking M from M,B and P by Kofi is p_1 =(1/3). probability of picking M from P,M and C by Ama is p_2 =(1/3). probability of picking M both by Kofi and by Ama is then p=p_1 ×p_2 =(1/3)×(1/3)=(1/9) way 2: to pick a book by Kofi there are 3 possibilities and to pick a book by Ama there are 3 possibilities, totally there are 3×3=9 possibilities. to pick the M book both by Kofi and by Ama there is 1 possibility. the probability is then ⇒p=(1/9)
