what is a?

$${what}\:{is}\:\boldsymbol{{a}}? \\ $$

b−a is given. so you can know what is a.

$${b}−{a}\:{is}\:{given}.\:{so}\:{you}\:{can}\:{know}\:{what} \\ $$$${is}\:{a}. \\ $$

a^2 +b^2 =c^2 =Area

$${a}^{\mathrm{2}} +{b}^{\mathrm{2}} ={c}^{\mathrm{2}} ={Area} \\ $$

c^2 is also correct. but it is requested in terms of a and b, therefore only (A) is the right answer.

$${c}^{\mathrm{2}} \:{is}\:{also}\:{correct}.\:{but}\:{it}\:{is}\:{requested} \\ $$$${in}\:{terms}\:{of}\:{a}\:{and}\:{b},\:{therefore}\:{only} \\ $$$$\left({A}\right)\:{is}\:{the}\:{right}\:{answer}. \\ $$
