x=17^4   y=(17−3)(17−1)(17+1)(17+3)  =(17^2 −9)(17^2 −1)  so x>y

$${x}=\mathrm{17}^{\mathrm{4}} \\ $$$${y}=\left(\mathrm{17}−\mathrm{3}\right)\left(\mathrm{17}−\mathrm{1}\right)\left(\mathrm{17}+\mathrm{1}\right)\left(\mathrm{17}+\mathrm{3}\right) \\ $$$$=\left(\mathrm{17}^{\mathrm{2}} −\mathrm{9}\right)\left(\mathrm{17}^{\mathrm{2}} −\mathrm{1}\right) \\ $$$${so}\:{x}>{y} \\ $$
