Question Number 67631 by Hassen_Timol last updated on 29/Aug/19

       Can you please tell me, where does this formula come from? And what means the factorial of a non- integer number? π = ((1/2)!)^2 × 4 I′ve verified the above equation with calculator. Thank you

we have x! =Γ(x+1)=xΓ(x)⇒((1/2)!)=Γ((1/2)+1)=(1/2)Γ((1/2)) ⇒  ((1/2)!)^2 ×4 =(1/4)Γ^2 ((1/2))×4 =Γ^2 ((1/2))but  Γ((1/2))=∫_0 ^∞  t^((1/2)−1)  e^(−t)  dt =∫_0 ^∞   (e^(−t) /(√t))dt  =_((√t)=u)    ∫_0 ^∞  (e^(−u^2 ) /u)(2u)du

wehavex!=Γ(x+1)=xΓ(x)(12!)=Γ(12+1)=12Γ(12)(12!)2×4=14Γ2(12)×4=Γ2(12)butΓ(12)=0t121etdt=0ettdt=t=u0eu2u(2u)du

Γ((1/2))=2 ∫_0 ^∞  e^(−u^2 ) du =2((√π)/2) =(√π) ⇒((1/2)!)^2 ×4 =Γ^2 ((1/2))=π .

Γ(12)=20eu2du=2π2=π(12!)2×4=Γ2(12)=π.

Thank you very much. But what means the Γ(x) function and how is it related to the x! function?

Thankyouverymuch.ButwhatmeanstheΓ(x)functionandhowisitrelatedtothex!function?
