Please is this solution correct???. My thinking. I thought it should be the horizontal force that should accelerate the body, not resultant force. Please I need clarification.

two forces are acting on the mass. why should only the one force accelerate the mass and the other force not? who said that the one force is a horizontal force? why should only a horizontal accelerate the mass?

I understand sir. But if the questions says find the acceleration to move the body horizontally. I can say a = (3/(20))ms^(− 2)

the “horizontal” is just a product of your wrong “thinking”, it doesn′t exist. even it exists, you also don′t know where the “horizontal” is. acc. to your “thinking”, you won′t say 3N is “horizontal” if i hold the paper in following way in front of you:

and what if you lay the paper on the table? then all forces are “horizontal”.

that′s why i said that it′s a product of your wrong “thinking” that you take 3 N as “horizontal” force.

besides, it is not said that this mass is on the earth. that you think there must be a horizontal direction is also just a product of wrong thinking. the question only says that two forces are acting on a mass. the mass could be anywhere in the universe, or even not in the real world at all, but just in a fictive physical system.
