x+(1/x)=5 and x∙y=4 find x^2 +((1/y))^2 =?

x+1x=5andxy=4findx2+(1y)2=?

Answered by mr W last updated on 24/Apr/23

x^2 −5x+1=0 x=((5±(√(21)))/2) x^2 =5x−1 ((1/y))^2 =((x/4))^2 =(x^2 /(16)) x^2 +((1/y))^2 =((17x^2 )/(16))=((17)/(16))(5x−1) =((17)/(16))(5×((5±(√(21)))/2)−1)=((391±85(√(21)))/(32))

x25x+1=0x=5±212x2=5x1(1y)2=(x4)2=x216x2+(1y)2=17x216=1716(5x1)=1716(5×5±2121)=391±852132
